Retard I think Pelle thought that MrEpee was mocking him. (The phrase "hot-shot actions.") I'm pretty sure we all know now that it was a misunderstanding. -

hey sam,
other alex here. nic allen won the foil, jeff and I took the two 3rds.
I was the guy in the red sock in the first video, maybe I can shed some light on the action for those who didn't get it. I made a half hearted taking of the blade in octave during my preparation, and it was the only blade contact in the video. I had pulled my hand back and sped up my preparation a bit in an attempt to draw a counter for a riposte but when I saw pelle search and the distance collapsed I just finished. If you look closely you'll see that I hit the attack but my hand position kinda sucked so no light came on. I would hardly call it a "hot shot" action on pelle's part, although truthfully if I was picking from fencing videos to host on the internet I certainly wouldn't have picked this one (not very interesting!)
Bonehead was spot on with his feedback on what you have to work on though. When someone starts pressing you need to take control of the action somehow. Put out feints, change the speed of your retreats, put out a line, make some false parries, anything to make the person pressing you hesitate or finish. What you did in the video was exactly what someone doing a slow attack in absence of blade wants you to do: stop and look for the blade (big search too). When someone starts pushing you you should be thinking : take control.
Not trying to be disputatious but I checked the results page to see if I knew you and the guy who placed 17th in both u-17 and senior (coincidentally the same guy) was Calvin? Might want to double check the results just in case.
EDIT : Just read wflaschka's reply too and he brings up a good point about your en guarde. Try and keep it in 6 unless you have a real purpose not to, especially when retreating. Gives the attack a few less options and you a few more.

I was trying to give the best free advice possible, and not surprisingly Pele got some good feed back by some folks who happened to be at the competition, and his opponent.
Their feedback was not based on just the submitted clips. Take your time. Read carefully. -
You thought calvin would take it.... as in the gold medal? -

Also, at times I'm not sure who I am, so possibly your guess is as good as mine. Something about getting hit over the mask too many times, I guess. Some people are like slinkys. They serve no useful purpose, but it sure feels good when you push them down the stairs. Similar Threads -
