Thanks National events charge a $30 registration fee plus $50 per event entry fee. -

Entry form must be submitted by the deadline (approximately 1 month in advance), late entries are permitted at triple the fee ($240). Entries are not accepted at the door nor within the week before the tournament. -

My qestion was if USD 30-50 was the minimum cost for participating in one events (say, Womens Épée)? That would then, in my opinion, be quite a lot of money... -

Array No. Each time you go to a NAC, it's $30 to register for the tournament and $50 for each weapon you fence. For example, if you just fence epee at a NAC, you pay $80. If you fencing epee and foil, it's $130.
That doesn't include the $50 fee for the USFA card.
Local tournaments range from $10 per event to $15 per event. Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.

Array Local competitions go up to as much as 20-50$ an event sometimes... If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

No, this sounds more reasonable: Originally Posted by Army Fencer Local tournaments range from $10 per event to $15 per event. This is the usual entry fee for most fencing comps in Sweden (unless it's a really small one, like the competition we have at our club which is ~2.50$), FIE events or not.
Sorry for going OffTopic, but these prices you are all giving makes me wonder if fencing is a 'posh' sport in the US?
From all my experiences learned on this forum fencing (club membership fees, lesson cost, competition entries etc.) seems to be considerably higher than here in Sweden?!

Local tournaments range from $10 per event to $15 per event. In France it is usually 10 Euros for a national event (registration + one event)
Now i understand why some americans seems to be in favor of the test
timings in foil : they want the matches last longer :-) -

Personally, I think it's the Soviet influence/ lack of public knowledge of the sport... it's become too much of a novelty thing, methinks.. Yes, I have heard that you're mad about coaches from the (ex)USSR. A lot of them claim to be Maître D'armes (which is a very thorough education on all three weapons) when in fact they are 'merely' coaches. Apparantly those guys can make a pretty good living out of it... -

Array From what I hear... Simon Gershon(who is the national foil team coach), makes upwards of 1000$ of work from Saturdays alone... If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Array Per Saturday....
Every saturday he gives a group class which has an enourmous fee, and has a tremendous amount of people. If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Array Up to a THOUSAND dollars per saturday?!
Crikey...I could make a living of that for almost a month...
Perhaps I should better not ask if that is 'white' money as I have no idea how the US tax system works... *whistle* -

Array More than a thousand actually... it's $50 per student and there's at least 25-30 people in the class... If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust
