| Q: Competition Equipment Requirements Is FIE rated equipment required for competitions? Like the OC Open this past weekend? or does it just have to pass inspection? I would hate to have to re-buy everything for the February D Comp.
Thanks,
John
PS. Found a latin phrase today that means, I who am about to win, salute you.

| No, this is really a requirement for national and definietly international competitions. D's aren't really up there .
So what is the phrase?

| Complete FIE equipment is required for international competitions. It is not required for local or national events. The lame, mask and bodycords will need to pass inspection before each competition. |

| Let's clarify that.
FIE gear (clothing & weapons) reqiured at FIE events (world cups, Olmpica, etc)
FIE gear NOT required at any event in the US (except if that event is an FIE one). You can go to the US nationals with entry-level gear, so long as it passes the various test, safety, and resistance requirements at the armor table.
At local divisional events you'll most likely only get your mask checked. Lames and body cords get checked at a sectional event (like Duel in the Desert or the Long Beach Invitational) or higher. Sometimes the weapon is checked also.
I hope your mask wasn' one of the three I failed at OC Sunday! (heh...frown for a control mark...) |

| Every local tournament I've been to lames, bodycords and masks were checked--just as at national tourneys. I guess it depends on how thorough everyone wants to be. |

| At our local tournaments, we are talking around 100 fencers, 1 Armorer and not enough room for a table. Mask only required.
