    Newbie in SoCal

    Hello,
I started with foil at the Community Center in Midland MI twenty years ago, for about 6 months. Then I went to college and was disenchanted with the big heads in the Fencing Club, and turned my attentions to dating.

Last year I picked it up again at Fortune Fencing in Pasadena and have been having a ball. I am doing epee now and have found I prefer the French grip to pistol. Some of the guys at the salle reckon I am easily good enough for D Level, but I haven't had time to go to a competition yet. (Kids.) Maybe in February.

I am also a homebrewer of beer of some repute, and have written a book on it. You can read it online at www.howtobrew.com

I have always like the Michael York - Three Musketeers movies.

I saw one of your teammates yesterday (don't remember his name, but he's 6' 10" and fences epee with a French grip...AND posts...that should be illegal right there!)

    Funniest bout...his vs Yukio Watanabe...she's MAYBE 5' 3"!!
Need fencing equipment? See me at H.O.M. Fencing Supply

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

Ahh, that's Jeff. He is rather good (I think). I usually do a bout or three with him each week. His height is a challenge all right. I landed an especially nice counterattack though, on the underside of his forearm on Friday. He won 15-6
There are a lot of high schoolers at the salle on Fridays. I was used to the other adults my age - you know, a more measured bout. These younger folks fight fast! Good change of pace for me though.
