Hello everyone,
The 2nd Annual Salem Classical Fencing Winter Novice Foil Tournament was
a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who fenced and/or helped out. Here is a
summary of the results:
*Individual Novice Foil (Saturday) */- 15 fencers
/1. Gary Girod (Salem Classical Fencing, Salem, OR)
2. Alan Cook (Hidden Valley Fencing Club, Grants Pass, OR)
3. Tiffany Le Brun (Northwest Academy of Arms, Eugene, OR)
Additionally, Tiffany Le Brun (NWAA) was recognized for receiving the
fewest touches per bout and Alex Kohan (SCF) was recognized for
receiving the fewest touches per victory.
*Team Novice Foil (Sunday) */- two teams (best 2 out of 3 matches)/
1. SCF -- Brian Penrose (captain), Gary Girod, Casey Nosiglia, Elliot
Swan, Michael Heggen (coach)
2. NWAA -- Murray Sampson (captain), Joseph Barker, Tiffany Le Brun,
Liam Neeley-Brown

Most of these had less than 2 years of fencing experience, but a few had
3-4 years of experience. Ages ranged from 12 to 50+. Events were co-ed
(mixed gender).
This was also the first test run of the draft rules of the American
Fencing League, a new organization that is forming to support
competitions for classically-oriented fencers. For more information

Our next tournament will be April 9-10. This will be an AFL Prep-level
foil tournament (first-year competitors). Registration information
available on our web site.
The last tournament of the season will be an AFL Junior-level foil
tournament on April 30-May 1 (open to all).
