| New from California Hello everyone. My name is Charli (girl) and I joined a fencing club back last August (foil). I am truly enjoying this sport, but somebody hold me a fundraiser, do you know how much our gear costs?
When I played rugby it was just me and a mouthpiece. Dang, what did i get myself into?

| Welcome Charli! If you keep your eyes open, search past threads or just ask you should be able to buy wisely here (cheap is not always the best). I read that your a foilist - you will find many foilists here - but you will detect a rivalry amongst weapons!
Good Luck! |

| I'm doing my research now by reading some old threads. I went cheap on my jacket (regret it) and glove (torn now), oh and first foil (ebay), but alas, it's time to get serious 'bout buying gear.
I bought a Leon Paul FIE mask (my head is sort of important to me) and I bought a PBT blade which I feel is rather stiff. I'm thinking of going Vniti or LP for next blade, not sure yet.
Looking into fencing shoes, read the Chinese are a good bargain. Getting an AllStar glove to replace the torn one. Bought two Allstar body cords, plastron and lame by PBT, chest protector by Blue Guanlet, and knickers by Duelist (look like baseball pants) - wish I had bought the FIE ones, regrets, regrets.
I'm really in it as you can see. As far as being a foilist, I ask that you give me some slack. Our club will not allow us to hold another weapon until we've fenced a year in foil (though I seriously doubt I won't hold an Epee soon).
So, be patient, I may be a multi-weaponer (is that a word?) yet.

Just a tip, if you regret your purchase of breeches you could try selling them off and get others.
Oh, and we look forward to hear you taking up épée...

| I'm at Salle Santa Cruz. My coach is Kevin Osborn and now Eric Hansen is directing footdrills and helping coach my class. Nice to have the #1 in Epee (USA) in 2001 direct a thing or two. He's sharp, quick, okay, and cute.
Does cute count in fencing?

Charli | Down Charli....down girl!!!
Do you ever fence with the team from UCSC?? If so...watch out for a specific fencer...tall, young, dark hair/beard/complection, midde eastern name and appearance. Not a bad guy, but he's from the L.A. area (in fact, his high school coach is a UCSC alum) and he tends to break his own blades on people at a frightening rate...we called him the Bladinator last year. |

Welcome.....
Now if cute counted, can you imagine the run on beauty surgeons. I might even consider to switch jobs.....
Of course, get specialized on active Fencing members.
Now, this may work in the US only.
