I've got a couple of fencing videos on my computer - from uni matches - and what I'd like to do is pause them and save those pictures as stills. If that makes any sense? If it does, are there any programmes you could recommend (W.Mediaplayer doesn't work)?
Well if you have Quicktime you can just pause the movie go to edit->copy then paste it in Paint(comes standed with windows) and save it. Hope I helped more than confused you.
When you're playing the movie and hit pause where you want a still, then click the "PrtSc" (printscreen) key. Go to MS paint, open a new drawing, click edit, then paste, and the screenshot of your desktop at the time will appear.
Unless they're really high quality movies, you may have some problems with blurring and sharpness, since there's some quick movement in fencing.
Getting a screenshot while a movie is paused is a quick and dirty way to get the raw picture.
If you want something that's pretty high-end to edit the picture with (and yet is free), I'd try the Gimp - it's a GNU graphics program similar to Adobe Photoshop. You may want to start with an unsharp mask of various strengths to clean up a slightly blurry picture from the video clip.
