    Falcon

In 1949 I attended a fencing school in Hollywood, California known as the Falcon School of Fencing. I am trying to find the name of the owner-instructor who told me he had coached Errol Flynn in his many screen fencing scenes. Any help will be appreciated. Varick

The owner/instructor was Ralph Faulkner. Faulkner owned the Falcon School of Fencing and did coach folks like Errol Flynn and others. However, Ralph Faulkner died in the early 90s (if not earlier).

There is still a Falcon Fencing Club in LA, and is run primarily by Boris Sokol. His fencers have done quite well in national events in sabre.

Wasn't Faulkner in his 90's and still wielding a blade when he died?

While thje name Falcon Fencing is identified with Boris Sokol's sabre club, the name Faulkner School of Fencing lives on through Carlos Fuertes. They practice at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys.

Carlos is easy to find...just go to a SoCal event and listen for the biggest mouth!

Sam he was 95. He gave a Saturday lesson and had a stroke shortly there after and pass away. Nick Evagelista, wrote about it in his book the Art and Science of Fencing. Evangelista was also a student of Faulkner's
