    Extra lights on LP boxes

Have just across LP's new-timing, eprom boxes for the first time and am puzzled by their new features.
(NB I AM NOT SUGGESTING THERE IS ANYTHING AT ALL WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TIMINGS. Just want to get that straight before anyone embarked on the New Timings Debate again or got upset.)

    1. There are new orange LEDs in front of the on/off taget lights. Sometimes they come on but without an obvious reason. What are they for?

    2. On "testing" before the bout, sometimes a clean, prolonged contact with either the floor or the oponents lame will result in no lights. This is on the same side as the new LEDs that were flickering. I assume this is related?
How does it work? Why doesn't it? How to fix it? How to choose equipment? Look for the answers at

You may find that calling us on 02073888132 provides a faster and more accurate answer to any queries you have than posting on a USA based forum!!

Thanks, but I'm perfectly happy asking a question like this on the forum.
I know how the general circuit works and I know how to diagnose weapon, bodywire, spool and grounndwire faults (though I didn't have time to check them all at the time) so my questions really centre around the function of the additional LEDs. What do they signify?

Our range of microprocessor club apparatus (introduced a year ago)
are made to the F.I.E regulations. These apparatus can are supplied ready for internal battery operation but can be run from mains with the addition of medical approved power supply.

C505. Epee only microprocessor club apparatus with two bulbs each side making the apparatus totally F.I.E. Complient. C605 Two weapon foil and epee microprocessor programmable apparatus
    620. Foil Epee and Sabre microprocessor club apparatus
C620GT. Foil Epee and Sabre microprocessor double stacked lights making the apparatus totally F.I.E. compliant.

In order to comply with F.I.E. regulations the apparatus must follow the rules as taken from the official technical rules: '3. Should a fault in the insulation, down to 0 ohms, cause a leakage of current between a fencer’s valid conductive surface and his weapon, the apparatus should still be capable of registering all hits exchanged. The insulation fault will be signalled by the illumination of the yellow lamp on the side of the fencer whose equipment is at fault when the resistance is 0–450 ohms.

The registering of a valid hit on the guard or blade of the fencer at fault will be allowed provided that the electrical resistance between the guard or the blade and the valid surface is less than 250 ohms.'

So to answer you questionthe yellow L.E.D. are the same as the yellow lights you should find on any F.I.E. apparatus and show earth leaking from Valid target to earth. Every time you touch your blade to the jacket or the earth conection to the valid target drops to a given value the yellow light will come on. Although most refrees have no idea what the yellow lights signify. If they stay on persistantly the fencer should be made to change clothing /glove /Body wire untill the problem light goes out. Other wise eventually the valid hit will become blocked and not be registered. Barry
