| capital punishment, yay or nay? CP, are you for it? I am.
I don't think someone should be able to get away with murder with their own life. Hell, in NZ, you don't even get LIFE IN PRISON for murder! Travesty.
Don't beat me up for "they could be innocent!". I don't want that discussion.
Edit: CP in regards to pre-meditated murder. NOT manslaughter. I might make a poll for that later.

| Well, I guess we all agree, then. Somehow.

| Big fat nay.
The main reason is that someone has to kill the murderer and become a murderer himself. Plus there is the they could be innocent. Since we all know that the legal system is not perfect, there is no reason to assume it is when it comes to capital punishment. |

| There is a huge difference between a killer and a murderer; can't run the two together.
And capital punishment isn't even considered unless the case was absolutely airtight. |

| I said no, only because often it's so hard to be absolutely sure that the person accused and found guilty is actually the guilty one. Two recent high profile cases here (Sophonow and Milgard) demonstrate that someone can be found guilty and put away for 20 years, but actually be innocent.
The idea of someone being put to death because they had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time makes me slightly ill. Imagine if you were picked up by the police and no matter how much you argued your innocence or how many alibis you had, you were still found guilty.
That aside, if there was 100% absolute concrete proof, I would support it, but only if the guilty party was a multiple/repeat offender, as they've shown their complete and utter disregard for human life or humanity and no desire/ability for rehabilitation.
But... that's just me. |

| I think capital punishment should be an option. If the murderer is the type that kill people and try to hide all facts, and once found out he runs away afraid of being caught and get killed then capital punishment is the way to go. If the murderer is just some dude who runs around killing not caring about his own life then I think giving him a life in prision is more appropriate

| I said yay because of some cases that are just so horrific that I can't imagine that the suspect is even human. No offence to anyone who said nay, but you have to think of what the victim went through. They're walking to their car at night and this guy comes from behind and takes them away and brutally murders them. Do you think that their lasts moments on this earth were nice? I don't think so. I don't think that a little injection would even equal the amount of pain and suffering that their victims went through; they get off easy. That is why I said yay.

I'll rephrase: It's not like capital punishment is something just given out for any old conviction, tossed out like candy. It's most often used in severe cases with much less than a reasonable doubt left. |
