Array While not common cheating is not unheard of in our sport. There have been numerous instances where equipment has been tampered with, instances where the fencers themselves have done some pretty shady things like fixing their body cords to their under jacket instead of their lame, and referrees that have a clear bias and flat out cheat. I was present at one such event and clearly heard a Polish referree tell a Russian fencer after he lost to a polish fencer due to obviously biased calls "you do realize you never had any chance to win."
It will always happen in every sport. That is reality. All we can do is not jump to conclusions and stick to the facts first. Then if proven, I still don't know what can be done.

Array I don't think that everyone is honest and that noone ever cheats in fencing. In fact we even had one of our division's treasurers get caught embezzling a few years ago if you want to talk about weasel behavior. However to accuse someone of cheating is a serious thing and you should act as such. The most logical course is to determine what could cause whats happening to you to occur without it being cheating, systematically eliminate all the those other possibilities then proceed with proving the remaining one. From what it sounds like if it is cheating to prove it you should bring a videocamera to an event and try to catch them on tape playing musical spools making sure their fencers got the good ones and their opponents always got the bad ones.

Attila, in response to your question- because, the club is a very good group of fencers- there are just a few bad apples I'd like to see expelled.

Not much you can do about bad apples. But i think you are overworking the cheating thing. Besides, what good does cheating do besides inflate a clubs ratings. Once you get to the circuit /national level, those guys will be road kill. Work on your skills your way and let it go at that...... the only type of cheating I've seen has been in Foil and Saber where you have the clip to your jacket in your hands and you un-clip when your making and atack and clip it back in when they ask to test, Ryan Love has done this to me befor and it made me very made because there was nothing i could do it was my word against his

Array Nice to directly accuse a person right here on the net. That said, you may ask for side judges to watch the fencers. Fencers are not allowed to touch any part of their equipment with their free hand. And that's specifically for such reasons. -
No such tactic was employed by the group of people in question, Edew. I'm beginning to lean towards the theory that we were given a bad cable. I'll check it out the next time I'm there.

Array Chris,
Be careful with what you say on this board. We all fence at the same club and we have enough "politics" without adding the accusations to the list. You know how I feel about certain fencers there and the best advise I can give is that you know too and keep a watch on what is happening. Talk to Ted about the racial slur from the one and EVERYONE already knows about the other. It is clear who the better fencer is so be the better person also and don't let him get to you. In otherwords, let your blade do the talking.
