Quit (no longer with us)
Array Once again, i don't think you need to win a lottery to come here from neighboring states or islands. there are inexpensive accommodations that could be arranged. We have "Youth" hostels near U.H. that one could stay in for up to 5 days, for a very very very LOW LOW cost. The University may be able to accommodate you. THe University Area, by the way, is absolutely lovely, it's not your typical downtown area - it's close to transportation both downtown, to the beach and to Manoa Falls (one of Hawaii's favorite hiking trails) - you can train out doors for a few days to "warm up" for your fencing, soak in some of the ambiance- -
Quit (no longer with us)
Array edew: i think most of the people on the board are really too young to be able to assist you with your idea. why not put together a local committee who might put together a proposal for the usfa for 2003? -

3) Would you stay a day or two longer than necessary?[/B]
1) Yes!!
2) Being as that fencing is like the only opportunity for my family to travel, we would probably treat it as a vacation
3) We would probably (if hotel wasn't too spendy) stay extra, yes

Array In response to Purple Fencer:
It's actually more expensive for the Japanese fencers to fly out to hawaii than it is for mainlanders. However, since there were so many Japanese fencers I'm sure they got a really good deal on airfare/hotel. If you could get a bunch of fencers to go together on a pacage deal then it probably be cheaper.
Someone mentioned about seeing weather or not the Hawaii Division could arrange some type of deal with the university for a dorm arrangement. That's a good idea, somebody should write to them and ask if that's feasable. Another idea is to contact some of the local fencing clubs and see weather or not they could recommend to you some reasonable hotels to stay at, where are the cheap places to eat at (and not the tourist places are where the prices are inflated), so on and so forth.
