Gee, can you REALLY not think of any other possible reasons for politicians to do things? I thought the left was supposed to be imaginative, full of ideas and superior intelligence and subtle thinking...

Here's just one possible alternative for you guys of the assume-the-worst-motive brain trust: maybe the bill doesn't say what you think it says---maybe the language makes possible legal interpretations other than the ones intended?

Here's another: maybe there's a turf war with McCain going on over other issues?

So then they will no doubt work together to craft a bill that presents in no uncertain terms President Bush's stalwart statement that we do not torture. OK, I look for that in the next couple of weeks. It'll probably introduced with the Army Corp of Engineer's bill funding research on the "Probability of Porcine Creatures Sprouting Wings and Becoming Airborne."
