| Hello the board. /salute Hello all,
I am just getting back into fencing after 10 years off. I used to fence Sabre at SJSU (club) and Epee at CSULB (NCAA Div 1A). I am planning to just fence Epee (because I never did get the hang of "right of way" if it moves or is open I like to hit it).
I will be buying new gear soon, any advice is more than welcome. I really don't know what has changed in the sport over the last decade but am excited to see what is happening. Hopefully I will get a chance to meet those of you compeating on the west coast (once my point control is back).
/salute

| Tydive,
Welcome to the forum, and back to fencing. When you get your point control back, come up to Oregon. There are a couple of guys here I'd like you to meet, and fence with, named Seth and Cody. Decent epeeists.
I hope you enjoy your return to the sport.

| Welcome aboard, but---do they really have internet access in asylums now? ( I mean, you used to fence sabre, yet now you're going to do epee? That's a sure sign of insanity... ) |

| Welcome back to the sport!
As for your upcoming equipment purchase, search older threads and have a look in the "Product Reviews" section...and ask away should you still be bewildered.
May I congratulate you on a very wise choice of weapon?
(We just looooove these arguments over which weapon is the better.)

| Thanks for the warm welcome. It's pretty hard leave sabre but those of us who counter attack as a default really have no business doing anything but epee.
And don't worry about me, I won't be posting about foil. You little guys are cute and all but it's really not my gig.

| The FIE in its infinite wisdom has shortened the box lockout times for foil and sabre ( and done some other stuff for foil, none of which I care enough about to understand ). IOW, it's made them more like epee. So counterattacking is now a very viable strategy in all weapons, including sabre. You just have to be fast enough to hit long enough before the attack arives to lock the latter out... |
