| Male Protection I'm going to start learning epee style fencing later this week, and I was wondering if male fencers wear a cup. It seems to me if you got hit their it would hurt like mad.

| It also helps to actually wear it, too. Once you're used to it, you'll forget it's there until it keeps your, er... "stuff" from harm. |

| I would personally recommend a hard one, but any protection is better than no protection. |

after a while you won't notice the cup there, you legs are spread apart when advancing/retreating/lunging so you shouldn't feel it...'till you fleche. |

| I don't wear a cup. Because..........................I don't.
BUT, I had an awesomely awesome invention today. It's knickers that have hard panels built right in, so you don't have to wear a cup (or anything other than knickers), but you're still a little more protected.
P.S. This subject has been discussed more thoroughly than I wish to remember. Look for some massive thread about cups using the "SEARCH" function. |

| Trust me, wear one, once you get use to it, you are not aware it's there.

| Epees hit harder than foils, and that area is target area. So it comes down to this:
You can't hack the hassle of buying a box, and your tool gets MANGLED.
You suck up and buy one, thus saving yourself from harm.
I know which one i'd prefer

I fence foil generally and don't use one (I should get a soft one). But yeah.
In epee, get the most damn protection you can down there...I didn't wear one and then I felt pain (and then I switched weapons). |

| some of us like to target that area cause we know that not many people wear one. Its great when your opponet has a female friend, spouse, or anything like that standing behind you watching. You aim low, and you get to see how good of a dancer they are.
Wear one, you will not regreat it. |

| I don't wear one.
Wore one for the first ~2 1/2 years of fencing (all epee). Stopped when I realized that I felt like I had more mobility when I wasn't wearing it. Have not worn one in the ~8 years since (all three weapons to varying degrees). Haven't had a problem with not wearing one. It's a personal choice thing.

| I have one. Its been sitting in the bottom of my fencing bag for the last 5 years. I wore it for a while, but decided to stop one day. Don't really remember why. About once a year I wish I had it, but nothing worse than a few minutes of regret each time. |

Wear one, you will not regreat it. | i knew a particular female fencer that used to hit me there a lot. i would attack into 4 and she would do a high prime and riposte exactly on the middle of the cup once we got into infighting (this is in epee). |
