Buying a new electric foil

I'm getting a new electric foil and I need it in two weeks. I'm planning on getting a good non-FIE or a cheap ($-wise) FIE foil. I perfer light and stiffer blade. I heard the Prieur FIE Maraging foil is light and BG has it on sale. However someone said that BG only carries old blade I also heard that the new Vinity blades are light while the old Vinity blades are quite heavy. Is this true? Has anyone ordered either the Prieur or the Vinity blade from BG recently? If so how was it? Is absolute fencing any better?

With all that said, which foil/foil blade do you guys recommand me getting? And where should I get it from? I perfer to order online and have it ship to me... I live in the US.

Thank so much!

I have both blades, and I have to say I love the Vniti, it's light and durable, and damn near indestructable. The Prieur however, I hate. It takes kinks way to often and now looks like a sine curve for you math people and is much heavier than the Vniti. It's also pretty old. The one I ordered in November was marked 12-02. (December, 2002)

I typically sell Non-FIE StM blades (a little stiff at first). Sounds like you need it for the collegiate tourney at UCLA this month...drop me a line and I can have it ready for pickup at the event. Or I could give it to Greg Schiller to give to you when I return some repaired gear for his high school team later this week.

Shango: Where did you get your vinity? (Heard the old ones are really heavy @_@)

Purple Fencer: How good are those Non-FIE StM blades? I never heard any comments on them ^^' Will you have them at the tournament so I can take a look?
(Yea I'm getting new foils for the tourny here this month, I just broke my last foil on Greg X__X)

hm...i dont no
the new blue FL FIE sold by BG are quite flicky, and i never liked about FL blades. i wouldnt buy any vinity foil for the tourny if i am you because you said "I perfer light and stiffer blade." even the new vinti blades are still pretty heavy also flicky 6.03 try to ask for 3.02 its much stiffer, it takes some time to work with them.

if money is an issue to you, i would say buy non-FIE Uh BF blade 40$~50$
or perhaps a non-FIE STM 30$~"although my friend once broke two new stm blue in a same bout with me o_O."but then again i have seem some good review about STM FIE i guess some stm are worth the price, and for most of the non-fie stm blades are just sucked.

it would be best for you to spend alil more money, and buy an Uh BF-blue,white FIE from fencingpost.com 100$ german wired blade
130$ for foil with all german parts.
or order one Golubisky-pro FIE from LP-USA they are both stiff, good balance, ok lightness blades.
O and pay extra shipping fee inorder to get the blade/foil earlier, so you would have a chance to work alil.
hope these info helps

personaly i love to use vinti, and Uh/allstar BFs blades ;]

The problem with deciding is that different people say different things about the same blade.
Anyone actually try the non-FIE Uh BF blade?
I might just go with a viniti and something else (since I need two foils anyway). If the viniti turns out to be a bit heavy, I can use it during practice to help build up my arm strength?

It won't matter about the weight, fence long enough and you'll wield it like a toothpick.

They are cheap for maraging blades, and apparently last forever. - My next blade, Allstar sell them as "Ecostar maraging RT".

Like any blade, the quality if individual blades varies with each blade, but generally I find them good entry level blades. The FIEs are good, but I don;t have any in stock. I will have some wired ones at the tourney

You might find the LP budget maraging among the lightest you will find - reduced forte. Two of the same design of blade may feel differently, perhaps even in weight (not sure though) and certainly in flexibility/rigidity. If you like the weight of a certain design, but not the flexibility, you may still find a stiffer blade of the same design. If you're not too serious about weight, then you may find the Golubitsky Pro to be very stiff. At Leon Paul, you can specify the feel of the bade you'd prefer when ordering. Don't know about anyone else though.

The Prieurs that are on sale at BG, I don't THINK, are old. (It's hard to tell. You see, I bought them in October, and they're stamped with 10-04, thus, not old. But it might be the same batch. I couldn't tell you.)

BTW...you might want to stay away from the BG brand blades...the ones that have a rounded bottom side...they have a tendancy to snap frequently.

The only BG blades I carry are dry #2s for kids, ;cause they're very light and soft..perfect for little ones.

Older blade, but it's just been in a dusty warehouse in Germany I suppose.

What blade did you order?

My friend has the non-FIE StM.
I ended up getting the Prieur FIE and Uhlmann BF non-FIE as backup. I will see how they work.

I got my Vniti the same time I got the Prieur, which would be around late October, from BG. I broke my Prieur today, and am planning on the Lammet FIE foil blade. Any opinions on it here?

If anyone is interested, I have some very lightly used Vniti FIE, France Lames gold and regular FIE blades and a prieur FIE Chevalier to sell, as well as some non-FIE BF copies. Actually I say blades but they are complete weapons. The FIE blades are wired with German V2A Titanium barrels and either Prieur or German sockets. I can mount a bunch of differant grips including R and L Visconti, R and L Belgian or R German, Russian, Zivkovic B or American grips if you would like. I am going to be listing them on e-bay fairly soon so let me know if you are interested.

Vniti FIE $75
FL FIE gold $65
FL FIE standard $60
Prieur FIE Chevalier $60

All are very lightly used (one Vniti and one FL used only once as backups in two seperate DE's) and I am trying to cut down on my foil collection since I am only doing epee competitively now. Let me know if you have questions or would be interested.
