2002 Fencing World Champs

The IOC has given the green light for Women’s Sabre to be included in Athens 2004 but there still has not been and decision made regarding the teams issue.

So because of this inclusion the IOC have said that they have to trial the proposed amendment to the teams program for the 2004 games b4 they make a decision. In other words the 2002 World Champs won't only have the individual and teams events for men and women, but also a team event consisting of 2 guys and 2 gals for each weapon and the Italian relay. They are also considering expanding the 2002 Euro. Champs program to this as well. I wonder if anyone will come away with 4 gold medals from the Championships.

Unless the fencer competes in multiple weapons, how do you suppose they can come out with four golds? Maybe three, but not four.

1 x induvidual gold
1 x team gold
1 x mixed gold
1 x Italian Relay gold
is how I read mejci's post. Though I think they may be counting the team and Italian Relay as 2 different events, whereas genearlly I think they are the same no?

So the 2002 WC will include a regular team match, plus the 2x2 mixed team, AND the italian fire drill relay? Hmmm...that's lots of TV coverage!

Well now i just read that one of the possibilities is there now might be a seperate WC for the mixed team event and italian relay if Protugal says they can't afford to include this in the World Champs program.
