What's with all the new avatars?

Why so many avatar threads? Is this Inter-Vanity at its peak?

Yes, I was changing mine every so often. Now I don't want to change 'cause it will look like I did it to follow everybody else. I'm a rebel

Here is my reasoning. In the Hindu religion, an avatara is a manifestation of a God...like Krishna was an avatara. So maybe it's called "avatar" because they are like manifestations of ourself.

Because computer geeks like to feel like Gods. Instead of saying personal icons, they need to have an Avatar which is the earthly manifestation of a god that wishes to walk amongst his/her people.

I changed mine recently, too (shortly before Inq did, I think). Perhaps I should start a thread? "Look at my new totally horny avatar?"

I forget who you are. (I'm bad with names.) What was your former avatar?

An avatar's generally a representation of something else - more specifically, a physical/visible representation of something that doesn't normally have a visible part to it.

I believe it was a picture of Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride, but I was never quite sure ...
