Tampa, Florida Venue Picked For Veteran’s Fencing World Championships

“The Hyatt City Center in downtown Tampa, Florida will again be the venue when the Veterans Fencing World Championships return to the city in September.

The hotel convention complex hosted the event when it was held in Tampa in 2002. An estimated 250 competitors from more than two dozen fencing power nations are expected to attend the meet which will be held over the labor day weekend.

"There's an old saying in fencing that if something works, do it again," said organizing chairman Jim Campoli of Oldsmar. "The Hyatt City Center was an ideal host and having the convenience of the venue, the headquarters and accommodations for the competitors and their cadre all in one place can't be beat."

Campoli said positive feedback on the tournament and the venue from the competitors and from their national governing bodies around the world prompted the USA to bid for a Tampa repeat.
