Gardere This isn't a criticism, I'm just wondering, why was the gardere invented? If you want grip, there's the pistol grips. If you want freedom, there's French and Italian, and more recently the carbon fibre. What niche does the gardere fulfill? -

Array "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -
If the niche in-between exists, why does it??? -

Array It's human nature to want to build a better mousetrap. How many different sorts of pistol grip are there? Each fits a different taste and style, and the differences are even more fine than those between gardere and either of its alternatives... -

Array If my memory serves,
The gardere was the first orthopedic grip, and a variant on the existing French grip. It was created to allow fencers who had lost fingers to be able to continue to fence.
The fact that it is rare to find someone using one of these grips today probably has multiple causes, including, the fact that the more modern grips that have an internal pommel nut are more ergonomic and the fact that the gardere is not legal under the current FIE rules set. -
Because they give you additional finger leverage, while still keeping the balance from the pommel and permitting you to adjust the balance to your preference by using lighter or heavier pommels.
They also, of course, allow you to pommel-hold the weapon while retaining a better degree of leverage than you can get with a French grip, which is why the FIE decided to disallow them. "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."

Did LP invent the gardere? -
Nope, it was a coach named (strangely enough) Gardere. "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."

the gardere grip was created by someone who had some problem with his arm and his fingers. the aim of this grip was to give more power in the technic for the people who was using it because in theory that was for people without strength.
There are a cupple of year uhlmann had sold some of them in Europe, these grip were in aluminium, and that was possible to get some for épée and foil.
this grip wasn't the first model of orthopedic grip, the first models were the grip from the doctor Doyen and the model from Cugnon D'alincourt. Similar Threads -
