| Whoa .. Fencing Commercial As I was watching TV around noon today, I came across a shocking commerical. I saw two fencers fencing. It was crazy. It was a commercial for some funds thing. I dont recall of what it was for. Did anyone else see it? I think it was foil that they were fencing. i saw good parries and the people who they should fencing were not beginners. it was a pretty long commercial. |

Might be the same though, Mr. Voice-Over had an American accent.

| I've seen it. It's pretty old. Probably a couple of years if it's the same one I'm thinking about. Two fencers. Were they fencing between pillars here and there? It was for some investment fund.

| Ahh, yes. And here is the old thread: http://www.fencing101.com/vb/showthr...&threadid=2534
Obviously, their logo is a foil fencer. Remember, their demonstrating agility and precision.

But hey, are you saying that bouncing doesn't indicate agility? |

| There's another one Some hair coloring product for men has an ad that starts out with two people [in full uniform], whaling away with sabers, then suddenly they seem to have foils near the end? Maybe I imagined the ending. |

| Perhaps you imagined the start? Think about it.

| Well, there's another horrible commerical about men's hair coloring that features two fencers dressed for epee, fencing foil fashion, but using sabres. At the end of the commercial, one fencer removes his mask, then HITS the other fencer square in the chest. The next scene shows a sabre being thrown into an archery target, and it sticks right in the middle.
My children were appalled at the lack of reality in the commercial (They fence foil and sabre), and somewhat horrified that bad conduct (hitting someone with a mask off) was even aired. I had to explain to them that commercial endorsers care nothing for safety or rules - they are only out to sell a product and an image, but it's still a bad example for the sport. |

| Do any of you veterans out there remember an old commercial from the 60's or 70's for White Owl cigars. It showed a guy fencing sabre. He then stops, takes off his mask and lights up a stogie. The voice over says something like: "We think this guy's pretty special, but not because he's an expert fencer, but because he smokes White Owls." Pretty incongruous, I thought. What they should have said was: " This guy's switching to epee in the hopes that his opponent's blade will break and kill him before he strangles to death from the throat cancer we gave him."

| Hair color I actually saw a fencing commercial the other day that was about hair color for men, and it looked like pretty weak fencing to me. Like he gets hit and he says "right on target" and it talks about targeting greys, then he hits his opponent, she whipps off her mask flicks her hair and says "right on target" anyone else sseen this one?? it annoys me sometimes... |
