Hong Kong is part of China, and Taiwan is, too---the PRC considers it a breakaway province, the people are ethnic Chinese, etc.

Well, according to the PRC it is...can 1.3 billion people be wrong? Plus the UN accepts that it is. And we all know the UN is the ultimate "moral authority" in international affairs.

Some are, some aren't. I suspect that there are an awful lot of illiterate people in China, too. It all depends on which population you're measuring.
