fencer08 is on a distinguished road
Levavasseur generally trains women. He was Flessel's coach from the time she came to Paris until just before or after the 2000 Olympics, when she left Racing Club. He is currently the coach of the Canadian women's team, and has trained Sherraine Mackay since she moved to France in 1998 (and has made her the fencer she is today).
Kristian Kulcsar was Olympic epee champion in 1968. I believe he is the uncle of the current Kulcsar (and also his coach). He also trains Boczko (current world No. 9 and former European champion) and Timea Nagy (winner of WE at Sydney and Athens).
Both coaches seem to be very intelligent, tactical, sensitive and yet highly demanding of their students.

Thanks. It's always interesting to tie coaches to their students, and see the results and styles. I find that top intl competitors typically hv two coaches: one, the national team coach, and another, a personal coach that continues to hv significant influence on a fencer's style and success.

I've heard that Kolobkov hasn't had a coach for a long while. Do you know if that's true, and if not, who does he regularly train with? Presumably the rest of the Russian ME team, right?

Yes, it's true that most international fencers have a personal coach and then also train withthe national coach (they generally don't get much choice about that !)
I'm not sure about Kolobkov (my idol as a fencer !!). I know he had one coach for a long time, who is now quite old. I think you're right that he doesn't have an individual coach any more. I believe he also trains more sporadically that most top fencers now that it is later in his career - he seems to have his whole game so well sorted out in his head that less actual fencing is required.

Kristian Kulcsar is still a fencer at Honved Club in Budapest and is coached by his uncle, Victor Kulcsar, who is Timea Nagy's coach. Victor is also the most famous male epee fencer of all time winning everything there is to win several times. Also, Sherraine Mackay is no longer fencing with Daniel Levavasseur at the Racing Club as she has moved to Budapest as of November and is working with Victor Kulscar. Small world I guess!

Cheers!

Ohio State University's Fencing Center, with Coach Victor Nazlymov and Coach Alex Smerdin. There just plan cool! Great atmosphere, fantastic people, and unbelivable coaching. I would spend a month there if I could.
