This keeps weapon in the tube and the guards from digging into sockets and such when I have a pile of weapons in my bag (a few foils, and few epees travel with me to practice and events).

I will probably put together a more attractive solution than the zip ties to hold the tubesock down, that it has done the trick thus far.
try to attach the ties so it is actually covered by the sock when u cover the bell with it, so it can't be seen.

anyone tried using sillica gel before? i use it for my cameras to absorb moisture. and best thing is it is reusable. when it turns from blue to pink, put it in a oven and bake it at LOW heat for awhile, till it turns blue again, then it can be reused. can be bought at photography shop.

The dessecant pack never occurred to me either! GREAT idea!

When I make my PVC tubes, I cut the main pipe 36" long, then cap one end with a slip cap and the other with a crosspiece...one end seals the tip end of the tube, and the other not only leave handy (and large) holes to put a rubber band or bungie through, it also adds a little bit of length that keeps the tip from hitting the other end.

And now that I think of it, dessecant at the tip end is the perfect place, since that's the area we probably WANT to keep dry!!

I guess I am about the same as most. For my normal roll bag I don't use any blade protection. I just keep them in seperate compartments as my cloths. However, for travel I use a lighter bag and add 1/2" PVC to keep the blades from getting beatup. Worked well this last trip that was international. So, I'll keep going this route.

    Dessicant is a good idea...

I also use PVC pipe. I spray paint mine, and attach end caps for appearances sake, but it doesnt matter.

I 've used the BG soft covers for over a year now without any problems. I tried the PVC for a few months, but didn't like the extra weight in my bag.

We use pvc too, with elastic ties to hold over the grip. For the kids in the club, we got beads and decorated the elastic, like a bracelet. They are very proud of them, and always get their weapons taken care of after practice.
