Hi!
I just looked at the program "Olympics Extra" shown on Eurosport. It contained various moments from the 2004 Athens OG.
They came in various flavors:
1. Crying athlete on medal podium
2. Dancing spectators on stands
3. Athletes making various emotional shows on field/podium/place
4. Especially glorious moments in competition
5. Corny moments in competition
6. Really painful moments
I could personally have done without #1-3, they donīt do anything for me to see at all.
#4 contained a surprising amount of fencing, more than gymmnastics, about the same as ordinary swimming, and only greatly surpassed by T&F. Fencing lends itself to this kind of stuff, and many sports do not. Among the things glimpsing past were Montano winning, Mariel Z last points and win, several coaches in #3, the "machine-gun" thing by on of the French, etc.
#5 contained polevaulters whose poles broke in mid-air, lots of equestrians with difficult horsers, water-polists pulling off each otherīs swim pants (shown from the underwater camera, big hit with my 8-yr old), sailors getting their boat upturned, the NZ team doing its stick-out-tongue routine, etc. Also, at dropped WE winner - the teammates tried to hoist her up in the air, but fumbled.
#6 contained springboard divers hitting the board on the way down, bikers falling at high speed, and a lot of field hockey. An especially memorable moment was a slap shot close to the goal in a womenīs game. The defender ran up close in order to block the ball, but the upswing of the field hockey bat ( and those things look like curved, slightly thinned baseball bats) was so high so that the defender got herself what look like an instant pelvic exam. Ouch.
Have a nice time!
