Array Nothing, really, as pierogies are traditionally Polish (or, at least, Eastern European).
Hmmmm.....could there be a correlation between pierogies and excellent sabre fencing? But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -

How many sabreurs does it take to screw in a light bulb? One test is worth a thousand opinions. I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. - Toby Keith Living life without taking the occasional risk is like lemon-pepper chicken without the lemon-peper. It's just chicken. -

What's canadian about perogies? Unlike your country, Canada and the US are made up of immigrants. If I'm in Canada and someone asks me my nationality I say Ukrainian. It's assumed that I am Canadian they're really asking about my ancestry, specifically my looks. As I get my looks from my mother, I say Ukrainian rather than English /Scottish (from my father's side).
If I am out of the country, then I answer Canadian, as that is what they're really asking.
ThatReallyHurt and I share similar ancestry. I *think* his great grandmother and my grandmother arrived around the same time in Central Canada… Hey… they may have even known each other! It was a pretty close-knit community.
There is a great Ukrainian restaurant in TRH’s city that is one of my favourites although I don’t get there much as it’s a 3 day drive…. So it’s come up a few times.

Array Perfect sense.
What is the most fantastic thing about living in Canada? Freedom of speech makes it easier to spot the idiots. -

Array Gosh... there is so much I like about Canada. I like how friendly people are, the wide-open spaces, relatively low crime rate. There are not too many places where you can't walk alone any time, day or night. Most people I know outside of the cities don't lock their doors (how do your friends come over and crash when you're not home otherwise?).
Where I live in Western Canada... the moderate climate, the ethnic diversity, the breath-taking views, and the variety of activities.

Array Slightly off the thread... Originally Posted by Fencergrl Unlike your country, Canada and the US are made up of immigrants. You may be surprised to hear that Sweden has had quite a few differents 'waves' of immigrants throughout the years.
Dutch, Vallons, Germans, British and in more modern times (after WWII) Finns, Estonians, Poles etc.
In the 60's there was a lack of labour force hence a lot of Italians, Greeks, Yugoslavians, Turks and more Finns came to Sweden.
Since the early 90's we've had a lot of immigrants from Iran, Irak, Somalia and a few other trouble spots in the world.
Given, we don't have as much immigrants as the US and Canada, since we're such a small country but I'd say that we have quite a few different nationalities represented in Sweden. I feel almost unique being of 'solid' swedish ancestry!
Ok, let's carry on with the question game... -

I also like the surrounding nature, or perhaps I should say landscape. I live in a city however, and I like that too (at least at this point in my life) as the variety of activities is big.
If you were 23 years old and was going away on a fecning competition, and was going to stay in a hotel -- would you bring a pillow..? -

Array Probably not... for a number of reasons.
Would you? That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

Array Depending on the hotel, yes. The less expensive places tend to have pillows that are too thin.
How often do you stay in the host hotel for a fencing event? But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -

Array since most of the time when I travel to an event, i'm refereeing, pretty close to 100% of the time... unless i've got family or friends in the city, or I'm making my own arrangements or something.

Array Normally in a 'suites' hotel (Extended Stay, Studio Plus, etc). The costs of the host hotels are too dear.
Does Go?Fencing? think she can sneak around the Forum without us knowing she's here? Shouldn't she be at camp? But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -

What, are you stalking her or something? Absolutely NOT. I merely took a look at who was online, saw her screen name, and thought it would be humorous to post a message directed to her.

Array Quite good until yesterday, when I got more injuries than I've ever gotten in one day. Interesting stories, though.
What's the worst fencing injury you've ever gotten? -

Array Groin pull. utterly painful. Took me like 6 weeks before I could lunge again. Barely.
