| Okay, here's a true story that happened just this week:
As some of you know, I've been working as a Cadette Unit Leader at Girl Scout Camp.
Wednesday night, I stayed at camp overnight with (most of) the girls. We had planned to camp at a site called Upper Windy, which is up a long, steep hill, but when we got there, we found that we were one tent short, so we had to move to another farther site, Wakonda. Then we went back down the hill to cook dinner, in the site nearest to the office, Butterfly Lane. We got down a bit late, and we had to make a fire to boil water for pasta. While the girls were waiting for the pasta, we had raw carrots and broccoli with a (very good) ranch dip. The wall instructer, Sunny (Seana) came by and helped us out a lot, because Curly Sue (Sharaya) and I were having trouble. All the girls were very excited and curious and wanted to help, and I had to keep reminding them not to climb on the rocks of the fire circle or the logs that we had piled up next to it. I had gone over the picnic tables (about 15 ft away) after I had spoken to the girl who was climbing on the logs.
About ten minutes later, I hear a commotion, and turn around to see that another girl had been climbing on the logs, they slipped, and she fell, hitting her arm on the water bucket. She thought she was okay... until she saw her arm, then she started screaming. About halfway down her forearm, it bent up at about a 45* angle, then back down- something you absolutely never want to see on anyone. Curly Sue rushed to her side, and I ran ahead to the office to notify the staff.
After Curly Sue got the girl into the office, I went back up to comfort and reassure the rest of the girls. They were all in various stages of being freaked out, and several of them were having sympathy pains in their arms. I got them mostly calmed down, told them that the girl was in good hands and being well taken care of. Then the ambulance came and took the girl, and we tried to relax and get on with dinner. Sunny had to leave, but Birdie (a Girl Scout person who was there to lead campfire songs later that night) came and helped us cook our dinner- bowtie pasta with butter. We didn't get to eat until 9:00, which was when we were supposed to be at the other campfire for songs and a flag retirement ceremony. We cleaned up in record time (only half an hour) and got to the campfire.
Curly Sue had to go to the office to help write an incident report about the girl who broke her arm (turns out she broke both her ulna and radius, and they had a very hard time setting it so they had to knock her out and do a little surgery), so I brought the girls to the campfire and they were my color guard for the flag retirement ceremony (which went very well), then we all sang some songs with Birdie.
Curly Sue came up and told me that it was my turn to go to the office to help with the report, so I went and told what I had seen. We were in the middle of that when we hear Birdie driving her van up to the office, honking her horn like crazy. "Uh-oh," we think, "what's wrong?" She comes in with a girl and said she had fallen in the fire. I see that this girl is one of mine, and, honestly, the first thought that goes through my head is, "but we're not even done with the first incident report!" Luckily, she was not too badly hurt, because she slipped and fell in when they were putting the fire out, so she had a few small first-degree burns on her legs, and her hands were only dirty. When she fell, she was right next to one of the Junior unit leaders, who reached for her, but apparantly she had a bucket of water on her arm or something, so when she reached for the girl, she also poured the water on her, which minimised a lot of the damage.
The girl was a little shaken, but overall okay, and she went back to the unit and even swam the next morning. One of the other girls had just had too much, so she went home.
The camp director decided that she didn't want us all the way up at Waconda, so Birdie and the program director drove their vans up to Waconda and got all our stuff, and we spent the night at Butterfly Lane (where we had cooked dinner). This made all the girls feel a lot better, being right close to the office, and Curly Sue and I felt a lot better too. I said that if something like a broken arm had to happen, it's very lucky that we were right near the office.
The girls stayed up talking for a while, and we let them because we figured they needed that, and we all got to sleep around 1 am.
Thursday at lunch, the girl who had broken her arm came for a visit, which was really the best thing that could've happened. Everyone was glad to see her, glad to see her arm straight. Today she came in for the morning, and we all signed her cast.
Was that an interesting story? |

| there are a couple of options. If you always get sick from them, and they're on there, yes. If they aren't, no.
Why would you eat something that you know wil make you sick?

| Because a few months ago, they started making me sick, and so I've been avoiding them, and now I'm going to test if they still bother me.
Does that seem logical? |

I can eat anything!
What's the weirdest word you've used in Scrabble? (of course, if you don't play Scrabble, then you can just mention the weirdest word you've used in conversation)

| Oh, I have a whole list. Can't think of a good one right now though.
Would anyone else like to take the above question while I try to remember? |

How long do we have to wait, though?

| I don't think you should be looking online for that kind of help. Especially when it has to do with safety.
Did that sound overbearing?

Although I wouldn't ask someone online if it were safe enough to drive home either!
