I think it is when a particular strain of an illness, becomes hardened or resistant to normal cures/preventative measures.

A series of movies with a completely unique plot, two cops from different backgrounds and with different styles team up to fight crime! OK I shouldn't mock it so much, i actually loved the first one and Jackie Chan is the man.
Why is it so hard to eat less chocolate?
