How handy are you? Handidness seems to be a popular topic lately. What hand, and what weapon(s)? Some people are like slinkys. They serve no useful purpose, but it sure feels good when you push them down the stairs. -

What about people that use both hands? I use both, but I went with left, cause I arm wrestle better with that arm and my handwriting isn't that much different either way.

Array You could just use a back zip jacket. -

I know, epée doens't require too much of it, but something!!! And saber is really for footwork. Myself, when I do footwork RH, I feel like a... (well, here would come the name of my clubmate whose footwork is a complete catastrophe). So like that. ***Nusy***

Array I'm a righty in foil but must use my sinister side for epee, saber and .....other stuff. Heaven is where the police are British, the chefs Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and its all organized by the Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the chefs are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, and it's all organized by the Italians. Array I'm ambidextrous, and yes, it does come in handy. -
So far it appears as though sabre attracts lefties. Interesting. Lefties are still present in above average concentrations as compared to the "normal" population in all weapons.
So, does fencing attract sinister types or something? Some people are like slinkys. They serve no useful purpose, but it sure feels good when you push them down the stairs. -

Array Hey Westley...you're ambidextrous? How cool is that.
I am sort of ambidextrous...I write and draw and whatever with my left hand, yet I fence, play hockey, play baseball, or tennis, or soccer, or any other sport like a right-hander. If I try it left-handed, I fail miserably and it feels awkward. It's so strange. -

I wonder if there is such a thing as left/right handed when you're really young, but you just happen to favor one hand for too long, and it becomes a habit, and one gets stronger and more able than the other, and pretty soon it gets hard to use your right hand. I think it just depends which you favor. With me the coin just happened to land on it's side. At least it's a theory. -

It's just the other way round with me: I doe everything with my right hand, I just fence with my left (but I play badminton with my right hand...). And if I have to catch something, my left moves for the first. ***Nusy***

Array Two recently graduated foilists from UMass have the described situation.
One does everything non-sports right handed but does all sports lefty. The other does nearly everything non-sports left handed but does all sports righty. Just the way it works sometimes.

Array Anybody else wished the could fence lefty just for that advantage? Array Right hand with epee sword (sometimes I prefer to fence with a German two handed sword...just a joke lol) The purpose of tactic is to conquer the enemy with proper war movements and actions.

Array I'm a righty.
Tried to fence lefty once, to impress a girl.
Failed on both fronts. "Sometimes you want to give up the guitar, you'll hate the guitar. But if you stick with it, you're gonna be rewarded."

actually, westley, handedness is mostly hardwired from birth. when i was little more than a baby, i was tested by the doctor as to which hand i favoured and i was pretty much the most left handed person she had ever seen and that continues to this day. i feel really uncomfortable holding something in my right hand if my left hand is empty; i have to swap hands. -

Array Im left handed in all things expect using scissors, I use my right hand. Which is a good thing too because did you know that lefties have actually died from using right handed scissors. Scary, Huh? I want to be remembered when I'm dead. I want books written about me. I want songs sung about me. And then, hundreds of years from now, I want episodes of my life to be played out weekly at half past nine by some great heroic actor of the age.
