| How handy are you? Handidness seems to be a popular topic lately. What hand, and what weapon(s)?

What about people that use both hands? I use both, but I went with left, cause I arm wrestle better with that arm and my handwriting isn't that much different either way.

I know, epée doens't require too much of it, but something!!! And saber is really for footwork. Myself, when I do footwork RH, I feel like a... (well, here would come the name of my clubmate whose footwork is a complete catastrophe). So like that. |

| So far it appears as though sabre attracts lefties. Interesting. Lefties are still present in above average concentrations as compared to the "normal" population in all weapons.
So, does fencing attract sinister types or something?

| Hey Westley...you're ambidextrous? How cool is that.
I am sort of ambidextrous...I write and draw and whatever with my left hand, yet I fence, play hockey, play baseball, or tennis, or soccer, or any other sport like a right-hander. If I try it left-handed, I fail miserably and it feels awkward. It's so strange. |

I wonder if there is such a thing as left/right handed when you're really young, but you just happen to favor one hand for too long, and it becomes a habit, and one gets stronger and more able than the other, and pretty soon it gets hard to use your right hand. I think it just depends which you favor. With me the coin just happened to land on it's side. At least it's a theory. |

It's so strange. | It's just the other way round with me: I doe everything with my right hand, I just fence with my left (but I play badminton with my right hand...). And if I have to catch something, my left moves for the first. |

| Two recently graduated foilists from UMass have the described situation.
One does everything non-sports right handed but does all sports lefty. The other does nearly everything non-sports left handed but does all sports righty. Just the way it works sometimes.

| I'm a righty.
Tried to fence lefty once, to impress a girl.
Failed on both fronts.

| actually, westley, handedness is mostly hardwired from birth. when i was little more than a baby, i was tested by the doctor as to which hand i favoured and i was pretty much the most left handed person she had ever seen and that continues to this day. i feel really uncomfortable holding something in my right hand if my left hand is empty; i have to swap hands. |

| Im left handed in all things expect using scissors, I use my right hand. Which is a good thing too because did you know that lefties have actually died from using right handed scissors. Scary, Huh?
