Old FIE Gear: Legality/Safety?

My current uniform is an old 800N Uhlmann outfit made out of ballistic nylon from 1994. Aside from worn out elastic the material is in great shape with no tears or defects. My questions are this:

What is the legality of using said uniform?

Does ballistic nylon deteriorate? In other words, are there any safety issues to consider with my uniform?

As long as there are no visible tears, the call is yours. The USFA does not require even FIE gear for domestic tournaments. My ballistic nylon plastron is about 10 years old.
