As I said in Moonitic's post, I don't think there's that much of a problem No matter what everyone does, there will always be SOMEONE who finds a way around the rules, and says something offensive or inappropriate. A new forum won't help that.

We had this same discussion before, regarding the creation of a special ghetto, er, forum for the political topics that some sensitive souls found distasteful ( but apparently too difficult not to read anyway ). I wonder how many of those who approved of that segregation oppose this proposed one?

For the record, I think the WC is the WC and does not need sub-WCs. Then or now.

One of the things that most irks me is members of this board (DFP, and Hillbilly, to name two) who proceed to ignore the rules set forth by the creator of the board. The main rule I'm referring to is the no profanity rule. I understand you think you are especially clever for having found a way around it, but the rule still exist even if you manage to convince the machine you aren't doing it. Don't get me wrong, in my personal life I often curse like a sailor (went to an all boys Catholic military school, I learned to curse well), however, I respect the rules of this forum and the sensitivities of the other forumites who may not wish to be subjected to whatever crass word you might have heard your friend utter behind the teacher's back today.

EDIT: Just to head some people off, we all understand freedom of speech, but that only actually applies to your ability to either a) stand around and talk, or b) publish your ideas on your own dime. It does not allow you to disregard the rules of any public forum (not just applying the word to mean internet forums) you may join. You agreed to waive certain of your civil rights by agreeing to the terms of this (and any other forum) you join.

Anyone who cannot express himself without resorting to profanity is a clod.

I think that the Brat Pack, as a group , has nothing to do with it. Sarah, for one, would never make an offensive post. I don't think any of us are specifically trying to be malicious in our statements. We just hijack threads.

I agree with the swearing stuff; the rules are here for a reason. And I like having an online place where I know I could send a 12 year old without worrying about him...learning stuff.

this site should be primarily about fencing and fencers, there are many many other places to play if you want silly immature dialog. I refer new students and parents to this site all the time as a good resource for fencing info. adding more "watercooler" sections only dilutes the main purpose of the board (as I see it.)

I do not think we need another 'sub forum' ... but if Craig decides to create one... I think he should call it "The Playpen"... in honor of the kiddies that will inhabit it.

Ah, the first amendment at its finest. And those who wish to censor it by calling it R rated. No worries. The board is already separated out sufficiently to accomodate plenty, including the water cooler, (to which you have posted) where one can talk about blithing nonsense all day, which has nothing to do with fencing. Hence, the concept of the water cooler. So, in answer to the question, the board is already separated for those who wish to talk about blithing nonsense including the story that will never end.
Don't take life so seriously... You'll never live through it.
