    Promoting Tournaments

Does anyone here have suggestions for the best way to promote a tournament your club is holding?

Has anyone seen any really creative ways of getting the word out or increasing turn out?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Why don't you try posting/e-mailing a leaflet to the clubs most likely to provide some fencers, the type of thing that the club secretary can put on the salle wall.

Doesn't your local/national association have a tournament calendar?

The division does have a calendar, but I was just looking for ways to be a little more active than that. For the one we have coming up in a couple of weeks, I have sent out the e-mails to other clubs and local coaches. I am thinking ahead to ones we might do in the future where I have a little more time to prepare.

Our club regularly gets invitations from out continental friends - they are usually by email and I would guess they get the addresses from our national federation (BFA) that lists clubs by area with contact email addresses. You can email an attachment and ask them to post it or circulate it amongst the club. Good Luck.

I would suggest creating a few unique catagories for fencers. Ie a unrated youth, unrated senior, etc. This will attract lots of newbies, which once hooked will start attending many more events in the future.

I have a few suggestions, which you've probably already heard...

    - If your club has a website, put a notice on it to say.

    - Hand out flyers at other competitons that you or your members may visit.

    - Ask your local/national governing body, very nicely, if they would circulate a notice to the same effect and/or put a notice on their website perhaps.

    Best of luck !
