It must be hard times for Golu to have to sell such precious items. That or he's smiling because the lame is one of several that he used.

One of many I would say. Notice it says that it was his "primary" vest. That, at least to me, indicates that there are others.

Let's see him give up an autographed foil that he one a championship with, then we're talking about precious memorabilia.

My friend once sold a picture of an x-box. not an x-box, just a picture of one. It was plainly stated, too. Ah, the foolishness of people.

I heard some lady sold the ghost of her father on eBay the other day. eBay has revolutionized the way other people freak me out.

The one he is selling is the one he wore in the final at the '97, '98 championships and in various Olympics. He also wore this vest in '99 championship DE's (but apparently not in the final bout).

The France Lames fencing uniform is brand new (only used one time - his record breaking 19th World Cup victory in Venice Italy). It was provided by France Lames, but shortly thereafter he signed a contract to fence with Leon Paul gear.

Regarding some of the unfortunate speculations in this chat, here's the deal. Although he is keeping the second of the two vests for memories, he's not particularly attached to the equipment. Hand made foil grips - yes. World Championship medals - yes. One of two fencing vests - not particularly. The idea to list it on ebay was basically something I mentioned and he thought "why not" since it was just sitting there and not being used. Perhaps someone owning a club could display it as a piece of fencing history and gain some inspiration for young fencers. He has various vests from over the years, but only these two were used during the championships.

    So, now ya know.

For the record, I think it's funny that someone would buy it. However, if I got free equipment, and had more than I needed, I would sell it if I could.

(After all, I saw a pair of Kobe Bryant Shoes that were game worn and autographed that sold for well over $1,000. I think it's funny someone would purchase those as well, but it's in the same vein as a uniform.)

As it is, I only have enough for me to use...

And I have to pay for it all...

When did he make his own grips?

Actually, the lame interests me (but I lack finances) because it was worn in my all-time favorite and most inspirational bout...97 Worlds against Young Ho Kim.

Now if the lame KIM wore in that bout went up, I'd find a way to bid, just 'cause of the way he came back on Sergei from an 11-3 deficit in the 3rd period and damn near won it all!!

Man, you ain't kiddin'!!!! One for the ages. I;ve always wanted to tell Kim how much that one bout inspired me when I was competing regularly.

I remember once I was in DE, down 14-9...thought of Kim...managed to tie it...missed winning by about 1/4 of an inch above my opponent's shoulder...

Its funny how we all seem to have playbacks to these battles when we fence! That duel is the exact reason why foil is so great, and why I keep at it.

regarding the grips, I believe he said his father had them made in Kiev with special design characteristics. They are quite unique and Leon Paul sells replicas of them.

The '97 bout with Kim was for sure a "thriller"! Kim is amazingly quick and a talented fencer. Equaly amazing was Golubitsky's ability to stay focused and analyze even when the momentum of the bout was shifting. If you've ever been able to see him fence in person it is incredible to say the least.
