I got one border collie. They rock!
But you know this is going to turn to an argument about whether cats are better than dogs.

I have two border collies, both rescues. They are great dogs.... if you have the time, patience and willingness to work with them. But they aren't for everyone--in fact, they aren't for most people, I think. I always do my best to try to dissuade people who think they want a border collie--and then I tell them to rescue one...

I have a 55-gallon tank with various tropic fish. I'd love to have a dog but I travel WAY too much due to fencing. I can set an automatic fish feeder for the weekend (or longer for Nationals or Coaches College) and expect to still have living pets when I return.

i have a border terrier named emma. jesus she's fat. not P-H-A-T, but F-A-T. like the biggest small dog ever. And her breath stinks to high heaven... She ate a whole plate of brownies the other day, I thought she was gonna die... but she justthrew it all up outside, it looked like liquid brownie mix. Disgusting.

Starting from the top, I have Angel the weimaraner (she's 9), Jasmine the black, brown & white tortiseshell cat (8), Angie the black cat (8 months...& a complete riot) & an aquarium full of tropicals (bala sharks & neon tetras, specifically, plus some goldfish that we won at a fair a couple of years ago).

Sometime next year, I'd like to get a reptile of some sort. I'm looking at a bearded dragon or perhaps a leopard gecko. There's also the possibility of a turtle. Time will tell.

Goldfish in tanks are usually short lived.

Goldfish in ponds however live forever and make many many more of them. The bigger the pond the more they make.

Koi, which are carp just like goldfish are carp, don't reproduce as quickly but will breed with goldfish to make shebunkin by the 1000's.

"That DAMNED HERON" eats the larger koi but leaves the billions of goldfish alone......

I have a yellow lab, who is 8, and is the most adorable puppy you will ever meet (Ok, so she's not a puppy anymore...but...she'll always be my puppy). I also have a budgie bird, who is about 13 years old, which is insanely old for budgies (they normally live to about 8 years or so). But this one just wont give up, even though she's paralyzed in her feet...poor thing. She had a stroke last year, too, which caused the paralysis. Amazing bird, she is.

Actually, with proper care, a goldfish can live as long as any other fish. One "fair fish" that we had, called Moby, lived for about 5 years. Fish in BOWLS, without a filter or aeration, don't live long at all.

We had a parakeet that lived about 12 years. She liked to bite people (my brother, specifically). I think the blood kept her alive.
