| Underware Seriously, what do folks wear under their jackets? I normally wear a cotton T-shirt or cotton tank top, but it just gets soaked, and then in competitions, between rounds, I put a new one on.
There's all these new wicking materials used in other sports tops these days. Does anyone use these things rather than standard issue T-shirts under their jackets?? What do you think about their performance?

UnderArmor and a dri-fit t-shirt (poly-cotton-lycra or some mix) will keep you less than soaked.
You can get knockoffs at Wal-mart now. I go to Duhnam's because they have a full line of heat gear.

| I wear white cotton t-shirts, and white boxers. I learned the hardway not to wear colored boxers under thin white nickers! |

| Seriously! go to REI, or REI.com and get the REI tech tee or the REI swift Tee. I have a white REI Tech T and it is fantastic! http://www.rei.com/product/47619930....S_CLOTHING_TOC
Its a pollyester Pill-resistant material and breathes well, moves moisture away from you and dries quickly. Also it has an anti-microbial finish which reduces odor-causing bacteria so it doesnt stink! they fit snug but not to snug, so you can still move. I use them for everything from under my jacket and plastron to running and layering. Depending on the color they run $7.83 to $20.00 so they are cheaper than the under-armour brand and breathe phenomonally better. |

| White cotton t-shirt and white briefs. Usually the t-shirt gets soaked after not too long and I just ignore it, but occasionally it starts to bug me I just take it off and don't wear anything under the jacket, or if I have another t-shirt I change into that.
I never, EVER wear boxers fencing. You know how some coaches, for footwork, make you do that thing where you tap your toes, like go from one foot to the other in place, really fast? That bleedin' hurts when you're wearing boxers |

| cotton t shirts are ok. they get soaked easy but you don't really notice until you're done and take off the jacket. i've also used the underarmour type stuff and the sweat goes right through the shirt and INTO THE JACKET!! when i wear that stuff, my jacket and plastron tend to stink really bad whereas the cotton at least keeps most of the sweat off the jacket. in the end, i think either one will work. |

Over that, I wear a dri-fit tshirt. The UnderArmour (or other derivative) lifts the sweat off of the skin, the dri-fit (usually a mix of cotton, lycra, polyester) wicks the sweat and distributes it more evenly. It won't help during the ultra-heavy sweating days, but definitely helps during the typical sweating days.
Another trick I have, is that once you start sweating, unzip the electric jacket and fencing jacket, place a towel around your neck stuffing half of it under the electric jacket's collar. This will help keep the sweat from your head and neck from being absorbed by your jackets. If you're unzipping, you have to keep on your toes as to when you will be fencing next...

| Underarmor T-shirts are fantastic for keeping dry under your jacket. Nike, Adidas, etc all make a similar product. At Dick's or Sports Authority they all run about $25. The Nikes will go on sale for $18-20 from time to time. I've never seen the Underarmor brand on sale though.

| I have underarmour tshirts that I use (the performance grey stuff) and a pair of sliding shorts that I wear under my knickers. My plastron and jacket are both sweat-wicking material, so while I still get wet, I don't get as hot and I'm not SOAKED. |

| I wear my black Underarmor shirt most of the time, but it doesn't do a damn thing to keep me from sweating and it ends up horribly gross by the end of the day. Maybe I just sweat a lot.
And I don't know what's with you guys who can't wear boxers when you fence...maybe you're just wearing ones that are too big. I've been wearing them to fence for the past two years and I've never noticed a problem.

| As for us women, just don't wear cotton underwear. Or shorts, if you wear 'em under your knickers. I love the sliding shorts--more padding. |

hehehe, my underarmor shirt is also black. The reason we dont wear boxers is cause of that bouncing thing. When fencing in boxers, me boys look like pamela anderson taking her morning jog.

| I have the Allstar-sweat wicking T-shirt. Yeh, it transports moisture away from the skin, but then it soaks my jacket. I also fence with cotton often. It just doesn't make a difference to me, I sweat a lot, my fencing gear is always drenched. I wear normal boxershorts, they never bother me really. Plus I have a towel along at every practice and during every tourney, I really need it or the sweat in my face will make it hard to see...
