EEK! And yet you spend time here with your teenie buddies!!!!
Gav's top tips on avoiding spyware...
Don't use Internet Explorer. Don't ask too many questions just don't use it. Use a good browser instead - like Firefox.
Don't go to dodgy sites! You're a teen I know you do!
Get hold of good spyware removal software: Ad-Aware or Spybot for example.
Learn to spell. It's obvious that the reason you teens end up [accidentally of course] at dodgy sites (see point 2) is because you are not able to spell very well!

It is currently "impossible" for a gif, jpg, png, bmp to contain a virus. Of course, when I say "impossible", I really mean it is possible in specific situations. For the most part, if you right click on a picture in your web browser and save it to your computer, you are safe.
It took me all of 5 minutes to search, download, and convert the picture to an avatar.
"Since when does being a patriot in America mean shutting your mouth?"

In regards to Ad-Aware and other similar products, make sure you ALWAYS have the newest version and the newest update. Spyware comes out so fast, you can't stop updating.

this, however, is unfortunately not true.
there's a mighty tricksy buffer overflow problem with gif graphics that allow someone to run arbitrary code. if you keep windows up to date, internet explorer should be patched. if you use firefox/mozilla, then you're fine.
and also, don't use adaware. use spybot. adaware has contracts with some of the spyware companies to overlook their products in the searches.

Really? I have both adaware and spybot...and adaware consistently finds more spyware than spybot does. And spybot thinks my Windows Media Player is spyware . Confuzzled.
