I own masks, and I own helmets. ( And helms, for that matter. ) It is difficult to mistake the one for the other.

People who call masks helmets are labeled as noobs, it just sounds weird. You want people to take you seriously in the fencing world, please call it a mask, not a helmet and a weapon, not a sword. Not meant meanly but just the straight truth.
