Prank A few days ago, Cornflower posted a thread concerning a pregnancy. It was a prank- a prank carefully coordinated between Cornflower and myself with the objective of fooling some of you hapless plebians. Apparently, it worked too well, and a couple of you had something to say to Cornflower in PM's.
How little you know of her. While she may be less inhibited (that is to say she isn't a pre-programmed conformist) on this site, she is far more upstanding and self-sacrificing than many of you. I've had to put considerable effort into dissuading her from joining the Peace Corps, because as some of you know, they tend to work in many places that are outright hostile. While our military may have big guns to protect themselves, the Peace Corps do not. They sacrifice their safety because of a strong motivation to do well for others.

Honestly, I don't know what this is about though. I look at all the boards, but I never saw anything like that. And I also didn't think there was anybody dumb enough to PM anything like that. If you have a qualm with someone, keep it on the board, where it was started. Because if what you believe is right is truly right, then there shouldn't be a problem with letting everyone see it. And that way if something get's out of hand, a mod can close the thread. It's not fair to bring something like that up in in a PM or IM unless it's done thoughtfully and with the other person in mind.

though i'm almost interested in the kinds of stuff people sent to corny.

Though I can't say I've seen anything Cornflower has posted that would warrent insults, I can believe it of you. Your advent to the boards was not exactly calculated to win friends and influence people. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action.

Before I consider closing this thread, can I remind everyone to read the "Have fun in the Water Cooler" sticky.
The thread that is being loosely discussed here was closed by Craig because of the numbers of complaints he and I received. To be honest I was quite surprised by some of the comments I saw. As these are sent in to the mod's, in confidence, I/we will not be sharing them. Needless to say that Craig made the right decision.
Whether true or not, I would have to say that posting this sort of material on a public forum is inadvisable. The Media is littered with accounts, especially in tech journals, of stories where spouses/partners/one nighters go 'public' and this is accompanied by much "ho ho ho-ing" and general "look at this" finger pointing.

On a side note, 99.8% (exact figure) of the complaints regarding indecencies on TV for the past two years have come from ONE group: the Parents Television Council. They're a conservative activist group. Prior to their current campaign to censor everything and everyone, there were only 350 complaints per year. Moral backlash of America my butt.

Well I saw the original post and just thought 'poor girl' clearly I should not have worried. I can see the originators of this amusing (?) ruse are pleased with themselves. I am relatively new here and perhaps toooooooo old in the tooth because my reaction was 'What is the point?'. I am truly sorry if this prank was sparked by abuse originating in here but cant help thinking that the 'prank' perhaps was not best suited to this place. Truly no offence intended here to anyone - just a general comment.
