Array Lames, dead spots This thread is probably here somewhere else but my question is simple.
When you have a lame that is starting to get dead spots,, what can you do to save it?
Also, recomendations for washing them?? I have aclub with ouver 25 lames that need washing. -

Array go to this thread and scroll down to "how do i wash a lame?" http://www.fencing101.com/vb/showthr...=cleaning+lame
the search on this website is VERY helpful- use it. "I have an excellent idea! Let's change the subject." March Hare -
Have you tried nickle-print? (sp?) Basically, a liquid when dried is conductive (I'm sure when it's not dried it's conductive too). If you're have a small area that's going bad, I would recommend that. Otherwise, there's always a lame patch.
Good luck. -

Array Lame patches or use of the lamé saver conductive thread. That's assuming washing didn't fix your problem.
The thread can be found on http://members.shaw.ca/ubik/thread/index.html
I've used this thread for minor repairs on my lame and the bib of my sabre mask successfully. I haven't tried the described methods of resurrecting a dead lame. I've been happy with the results that I've obtained.

Array I was interested in reading about the liquid fix - I have only used patches before! -

Array I don't know if 'nickle-print' is the same thing or not but back a million years ago, I remember someone patching up a spot on his lame during a tourney with the same liquid stuff you can use to patch broken wires on car window defrosters. Smart people -- is this viable? -

Array I have had great success with the various "liquid silver" lame patches I have tried. A friend of mine first turned me on to it when she was touching up some of her club lames and it really does work wonders. It can do well for areas up to about a quarter in size, after that a patch is a better way to go. IIRC it is about $25 a bottle and goes on just like nail polish. Just be sure to shake it up REALLY good before you use it. One bottle lasts a pretty long time as well. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Where can you get it? I would guess radioshack and wal-mart might have it. Our club has a few lames with tiny dead spots, and I think this stuff would be the way to go. -

I never ordered it from here, but doing a quick google (nickel print), I turned up this: http://www.marvac.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=343 -
