Beginner question As a beginner,is it a good idea to start with the epee' ? It seems far more simpler than the foil and sabre'. It is so confusing with the "right of way" rules and other restrictions, I cant conceive that "right of way" existed for the original intended purpose of dueling... -

Array I have heard that many duels were for first blood and did not mean death, so worrying about 'Right of way' would not be important. But suppose that it was 'To the Death' and your opponent attacked you, so instead of worrying about the point and you counter-attack. You may kill him, but your just as dead. Array Start with foil, and go from there. The footwork is still fundamental, and who knows, ROW may become more tangible with time. Heaven is where the police are British, the chefs Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and its all organized by the Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the chefs are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, and it's all organized by the Italians. The footwork is the same, no matter the weapon; epee footwork=foil footwork, so no advantage to foil at all. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. Similar Threads -
