I have had the Uhlmann one, which is virtually the same. We also have some Allstar ones in the club. There are great reviews in the "review" section. They should answer all questions. But just to say it: I loved mine, but the flap over zipper really was to small and curled, not good. Overall still great!

just like an overall review really, but if the uhlmann and allstars the same thing, then I'll go to the review section for the lames.

I use the allstar lame but have also used Uhlmann & Prieur. the Allstar is cul slightly different than the Uhlmann. They hold up well. The zipper flap does tend to roll up after a while.

    Allstar makes great products.

the zipper flap on allstars seems to be a little better then the uhlmann ones i think , theyre wider (on mine is at least) not by much but enough so that it doesnt fold over as often as the uhlmann ones

    Life of Lame

When considering what lame to buy, As well as price, cut, quality of manufacture you might want to consider life of the lame.

Allstar Uhlmann use a stainless steel threaded cloth, Leon Paul use a more expensive flexible inox thread, many top U.K. fencers prefer the Leon Paul lame because it last from 1.5 to 2 as longer.

Can you back up this claim?
What would cause an allstar or uhlmann lame to fail that much faster?

I think lamé durability is highly dependent on the fencer much like blade durability. It's really hard to objectively state which lamé would last the longest. Body chemistry, weather, aggression, opponents, etc all affect lamé durability.

You do know that Craig (the guy who runs fencing.net) also runs the LP USA store right? Free shipping and top quality goods right in the US. Maybe it is not to late to send back the Allstar?

I think, given his location, it appears he possibly could have gone in person to one of the local vendors and tried on a lame to find one that fit him best and he liked... there's something to be said for buying in person!

I tend to assume that just because it is impossible for me to buy fencing gear off the rack no one else can either! You are probably right, but I wanted to make sure that he did not have to pay Blade or BG prices to get top level kit.

Is it just me, or is Allstar's lame more expensive than Uhlman's?
Heaven is where the police are British, the chefs Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and its all organized by the Swiss.

I don't think Allstar lamés cost more to produce. It's just stupid Blade Fencing's fault.

    Reviewer's Comments:
    Summary: Great Lame

Great lame: the best that I have seen or used. Even though it is very light, there is LOTS of conductive fabric and it therefore lasts a long time.
The metal zip is also durable (it never needed replacing) and the material is very resistant to corrossion: no marks on it after three years.
It only needed replacing after over three years (training 3-4 times a week excluding competitions).
I ordered a second one to replace this one.

I've got a fairly old Allstar lamee, but its still running well, and has put up with a lot of abuse.

The one thing I will say against Allstar's lamees is that we've had problems with the zippers not holding up. This could be due to having a lot of lamees in the ranges of a 36-42 inch chest size, and when we get a lot of fencers (ie, we have a tournament at home), we end up trying to fit a variety of sizes of people into any lamee not already sporting a warm body. So it may be that the zippers have been busted based on a too-large fencer in a too-small lamee.

But otherwise, I've appreciated the fit, durability and wear on mine.
