Just signing on for the Texas fencing list. Mergs and I are just down the way from each other. As I recall, there was also a guy who used the handle Space Cowboy. I believe he hailed from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. From his bio, I think Space Cadet was from Houston.

I'd like to be from Texas. I made a visit awhile back and fell in love. I even fenced at Bayou City Club.

Even if there are more Texans lurking on this board, I can understand why they don't want to admit they live in that state. It's not like you can really be proud of it, after all.

But what the hey -- you have to live somewhere ...

Well, bugaboo, we are proud enough of where we are from to at least list it in OUR profiles...care to "cowboy up?"

OK, Boo, ya done scratched a raw nerve, boy. I found it interesting during my last trip to Europe, that there is only one US state flag that almost everyone there recognizes, Texas. A lot of them think that Texas is still an independent Republic!

I'll also share this with you:

This was on the editorial page on Sunday, October 28,2001 of the Denton
Record Chronicle (by Dwight Crawford Sr., Sanger, Tx)
    ============
I get a big laugh at the dialogue of Osama bin Laden, the Taliban,
politicians, and the news media. They say terrorists will hit us again in
the oncoming weeks and months. What a joke!

You have a better chance of getting killed on Interstate 35 E than by a
terrorist. Osama has probably seen 100 degree plus summers in Afghanistan,
but he doesn't have fire ants to go with it. If he did he wouldn't be
sleeping on the ground in his cave. He talks of pain and suffering he is
going to inflict on us. He doesn't know what pain is, until he gets kicked
    by a
green broke, two- year-old colt in freezing rain.

Germ war fare? Texas ticks will give you Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and
Lyme disease, blister beetles kill your horse, green bugs destroy a wheat
crop, and termites eat your house.
Anthrax has killed Texas cattle for over 125 years. What's new? Our
prairie dogs carry the plague, armadillos carry leprosy, and our bats and
skunks carry rabies. We have rattlesnakes, copperheads, and water moccasins.
    Ho hum.
They talk of gas and biological warfare. They have never pulled in behind a
cattle truck while its raining, or ridden in the front seat of a pickup
between two cowboys, after they just eaten a big bowl of Texas Red.

Texas ain't for sissies! We have posted signs all over the state that
says"Don't mess with Texas!" Osama, consider yourself warned!

(Wonder why the Texas Tourism Board keeps all this quiet??)

Dame: If you are ever back down this way, let us know and we'll treat you to some fencing, two-steppin and REAL BBQ.

    Okay, speaking of Texas:

There was this Texan sitting in Clancy’s Pub one afternoon, talking about how big things are in Texas.

“Why, I got a spread so big, that I can get in my car at sunup on one side of it, drive all day, and still not be to the other side by sundown!”

Murphy, sitting next to him, sighed in sympathy. “I know just what you mean; I had a car like that myself, once…"

Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action.

    Mergs-

*wipes tears from his eyes and slows down the laughter long enough to breathe and type*

I couldnt stop laughing while reading that, and worse yet, it's all so true! The only thing that article was missing was mention of the giant spiders that you find haunting your yard and the scorpions that find their way up the drain pipes and into your tub!

But ya know, i havent run across anyone that lived here for a while and didn't fall in love with it!

    *wipe some more tears*

I lived in Greece for 7 years, and everyone always seperated Texas from the US when discussing North America And they always respected Texas more than THe US in general. Guess Greeks have more in common with Texans than with any other state resident

    Konstantinos,

Glad you could relate. But being from Dallas (which distance-wise from Houston is farther than most straight line distances possible in 2/3's of the other 'provinces') he forgot about coral snakes, alligators that eat pet labradors in the parks, mosquitos that work part-time for the blood banks, and humidity so thick you can feel the air entering your lungs when you breathe!

    Texas Trivia:

If you could fold Texas over at the Sabine river, El Paso would be 200 miles out in the Atlantic. If you folded it over the other way, Orange/Beaumont would be 400 miles out in the Pacific.

The Episcopal Diocese of Texas is the only one that has TWO dates of establishment, 1838 and 1849 (first established during The Republic and then re-established once Texas became a State).

And then there was all the other stuff that came out during the election (World's 11th largest economy, 2/3's the country's oil production/refining capacity, two of the four top computer manufacturers, etc).

Gulp! I'm sure glad I didn't run into any of them critters while I was there. I'll be sure to shake my boots before I put them on next time.

Not that I'm a sissy by any means. I used to play in the swamps in South Carolina when I was but a child. We had many of the same critteres there.

And thanks for the invite, Mergs, I'll consider it.
