When does the human life begin?

This is a correlate thread to multiple other threads that are currently in discussion. Try not to bring abortion or contraceptives into the argument. It's not necessary.

I do not think the discussion about the beginning of human life is possible separately from the discussion about abortion or contraception.

I think it would be best to say human life starts at about the 24th week post conception.

    When does human life begin?

    ...when I say it does.

Now you can all disagree with me, but I have a much simpler position to defend than anybody else will.

Hell no. It definitely ends around 35 or 40, whether or not you're still breathing.

Life pretty much begins when you move off to college, I think.

Life begins at conception, human life is more dufficult, but I would say no later than ~12-15 weeks, if not at conception. Ultimatly, though, I favor the former. Just because it does not look human, and lacks most human traits, does not mean that it is not.
This does not necessaraly have to connect to aborition, as there are arguments on both sides detached from the status of the feotus.

I think the discussion is paramount to abortion and contraception but is independant of the two topics.

Perhaps the wording of the question is the most difficult. Maybe I should change it to "At what point is the Human Being differentiated from the cells of which he/she is formed?"

After trying for several whole minutes, I was unable to devise anything suitably profound. Instead, I would like to put in a request for something Confuscian-sounding and/or zennish about the beginning of life.

No, it begins the first time you pick up a (fencing) weapon. Yep. How did I survive without fencing?
Some people are like slinkys. They serve no useful purpose, but it sure feels good when you push them down the stairs.

How about "Life begins not with the first beat of the heart, nor the first gasp of breath, but rather when the mind first yearns for true understanding"

Thats the best I can do for now...
nor is it actually what I believe.

That's a hard question to answer, it really depends upon many things. Usually, once you pop out that's when I consider you truly alive. But during pregnancy... that would be different. I guess that to me it's when you are separate from others, not necessarily independent of, just separate.

On another note: *sigh* Abortion is such a tough subject.. I just hope that I never have to face it.

Life neither begins nor ends, it merely continues in another state of reality.
