| The old model SG 12's can be upgraded with a chip, so you can just order the chips. The rub is, there are different chips for different revsion numbers. The three different variants are:
1. Square colored lights, square white lights, rotary volume switch
2. Square colored lights, _round_ white lights, on/off sound switch
3. Squaree colored lights, square white lights, on/off sound switch
The new (LED array) SG machines use flash memory for the firmware, and do need to be sent in (since only Ted has the interface hardware and software to update them). I don't know why SG went that route (perhaps they thought it was more convenient without thinking that end users don't have the necessary equipment).
