Sex OK during Grey Cup week: Argos coach

OK, you jocks out there, I've cited previous examples of "abstention vs indulgence before a big game" before from actual examples from the 70s: the Rams vs the Steelers. the coach of the former team advocate abstention and the coach of the latter, 'please you wife or girlfriend.' We know the results of those contests.

Here's the latest, on the eve of the 92nd Grey Cup, the coach of the Toronto Argonauts, a former receiver himself, gave a perfect answer to the questions.

Sex OK during Grey Cup week: Argos coach

CBC SPORTS ONLINE - If the expression "whatever the coach says goes" is true, the Toronto Argonauts will be getting their fair share of nookie during Grey Cup week, if they want it.

Argos head coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons sent the press gallery into hysterics at Wednesday's news conference with his response to the seemingly annual question of whether his players would be allowed to have sex in the days leading up to Sunday's CFL championship game against the B.C. Lions (CBC, 4 p.m. ET).

While most coaches usually brush off the question, Clemons, renowned for his jovial personality, chuckled and offered his view on the subject.

"Personally speaking, this game is of such great magnitude that far be it from me to interrupt what may be a player's normal course of action for readying himself for a game," he said, as those in attendance laughed.

"If it has worked thus far, please indulge.

"If it has not benefited you to this point, please abstain."

Whether the B.C. Lions will incorporate the same philosophy as the Argos remains to be seen. Lions coach Wally Buono wouldn't give a decisive answer to the provocative query, but grinned at Clemons' response.

"I'm too old, I don't know about that," the 54-year-old Buono said. "I've answered that question before and I thought Pinball handled it a whole lot better than I did."

I know that the Steelers won the Super Bowl against the rams in '79, but there were a lot of games between the two in the 70s.

Yeah, the guy on the Argonauts has it right. It's good sometimes to just loosen yourself up before a big game. In my experience, at least.
