| www.soryeverybody.com I couldn't get on the site itself after my friend - from HK - informed me of it. I guess it's down.

"Thousands of remorseful Americans say sorry to the world for president's victory" - United States, Associated Press in New York
It started the day after the US presidential election with one student posting a picture of himself on the internet holding up a sign reading: "Sorry world (we tried) - half of America".
Within just a few days, the website www.soryeverybody.com, set up by James Zetlen, had 27 million hits. The site features several thousands of contrite Americans holding up placards expressing their sorrow at the victory of Bush. Thousands pictures waiting to be posted.
All the pictures share a common them, asking forgiveness for the re-election of Mr Bush. One man's sign reads: "This one of the 55,902,001 Americans that voted against Bush would like to apologise for the 59,422,689 idiots who did."
(From the sender: Don't be offended even if you're a supporter of Bush. This is just to report news, though you may like to re-think about your vote. Hopefully, you'll be more careful next time.) |

Notice, i just posted that, i didn't write that.
FYI, though i've been schooled in a Catholic school for 8 yers, studied and wrote exams in both Catholicism and Biblical Knowledge, I'm an agnostic.
That said, i respect other people's beliefs and particiapte in their celebrations - who doesn't love a party. It is a neccessity in order to live harmoniously in a multicultural society like CDA.
The difference between CDA and perhaps the US too, vs FRA, ND [which are in the news lately] and most European countries is that in Europe, a foreigner is accepted as long as one does not stand out, as long as one dress the same as the locals. On the other hand, in CDA/US, one may dress as one pleases as long as it does not interfere with the freedom of another person.

| I have no idea what your religious background has to do with any of this.
I am not sure whether you or the person you were quoting actually wrote the part about "this is not to offend." Whomever it was, that is whom I was addressing. I was referring to the idea of re-thinking my vote, which is preposterous to me. Additionally, both the comment about re-thinking my vote and being "more careful next time", I have a very hard time imagining were not intended to give offense. Finally, I also have something of a hard time believing that the entire post was not written, if not with intent to offend, with quite some glee at the offense it would obviously cause.
So, in short, I'm calling bulslhsit on the whole thing. |

| Soldier, he's joking. PKT is an @$$, but I don't think he was posting this to the republicans. He was posting this to the democrats, and that was a bit of warning for said Republicans. The joke at the end was more playful than cruel. |

At the Academy, do you have to walk right beside the walls? or was that only at the Marines' academy?
Loosen up, soldier.
Or should I have written, "Loosen up, soldier. That's an order"?
Thank you, Wes, for trying.

PK | You walk at attention right beside the walls, as well as a myriad of other things, as a freshman. Unless you are one of our worthless freshmen here in my squadron. They don't bother to do much of anything they're supposed to. In any case, Naval Academy graduates can commission to either the Navy or the Marines. No, the Marines do not have their own academy.
You could say "that's an order" if you want, but since you're nowhere near my chain of command, it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me.
In any case, I still don't believe you were "only joking", so I'm not really inclined to "loosen up". |

MR | Then, what's The Citadel? Isn't that a Marine academy of sorts? |

| The Citadel is a private university, with a strong military program built in. It also has a ROTC program of sorts, though I am not current on the details of it. |

The Citadel is a State college of South Carolina. Not private.
All cadets participate in ROTC. Its detachments are authorized to offer commissions in the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Navy.

but part of the problem, at least, is that "sorry" is spelt with two "r"s, not just one. so the link you have is misspelt. |

MR | IIRC, future Marine officers (not from the enlisted ranks) attend the Naval Academy--where they are commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants upon graduation (and an additional time at a Marine Corps school).
I'm not sure at what point you have to decide to choose between Marines and Navy.

| You decide shortly before graduation, probably around Christmas senior year. Also, the Marines do have their own OCS at Quantico, as Sabreur said. There simply aren't enough people per year through any of the Academies for them to be able to serve as the sole officer source for any branch of the military. |
