    Mandatory Kid Psych Testing?

    Actual news from the wire:

    http://www.newsmax.com/archives/arti...1/140125.shtml (for full article)

Under new law being considered, the federal government would require that every child in America undergo psychological screening and receive recommended treatment, including drug therapies.

Next week the Senate re-convenes to consider an omnibus appropriations bill that includes funding for grants to implement mandatory universal mental health screening for almost 60 million children, pregnant women, and adults through schools and pre-schools.

But officials of the respected Association of American Physicians & Surgeons(AAPS) decry what they see as “a dangerous scheme that will heap even more coercive pressure on parents to medicate children with potentially dangerous side effects.”

The bill would fund initiatives of the “New Freedom Commission on Mental Health,” including a program designed to subject every school age child in the country to psychological testing and recommendations for treatment.

I wonder how Prez George would have fared during his elementary days with this kind of testing ? Any bets it's being sponsored by his friends in the drug industry?

Right. Newsmax. "News" source for gun-totin anti-government conspiracy theorists.

By the way, this ain't off the wire. And it ain't exactly news. There must be hundreds of web sites on this, all using pretty much the same hysterical language, like it was all cut-and-pasted from somewhere.

Yeah well . I think this is a plan to get money for the drug companies from our parents. Nowadays a doctor can pronounce you sick on any terms. A shrink can think of any number of names for a person that is fine, that turns the person into a sick person.

Of course we need manditory psych screening for all children. How else will we know what weapon to start each new student with?

    You're absolutely right.

    Lets see...

So how would you sort these psych types?

Neurotic (analogous to a driver who's always changing lanes but not getting ahead, overconcerned with his own personal space and likely to lapse into road rage if provoked)

Psychotic (like a driver who ignores the lane markers, curbs, other cars, and speeds happily across the median into oncoming traffic, completely oblivious to his own safety or anyone else's)

Logical (akin to a driver who sees that the car in front appears to be aiming for the exit, but the wheels aren't aimed there, so must be about to cut the driver off, so aims at the car's rear end in the knowledge that cars rarely suddenly go into reverse)

Emotional (like a driver who sees that the car in front is about to cut him off, and lays on the horn and yells as much as possible, swerving this way and that, but not actually braking or anything)

Normal (no, there are no normal fencers, don't bother)
Just because you have the right, that doesn't mean it is right.

I think it's a good thing. The more drugs our children are on, the more normal they'll be, and they won't have to deal with the pressures of the other children around them that would otherwise be smarter or more energetic.

Who else thinks that 75% of psychology is bull****e? We've been through 20,000 years of being human and intelligent without Ridilin, why is it so needed now?

Kids take enough drugs without psychologists telling them to. Actually, that's a good idea. Free marijuana for all students. That way, they'll be happy and relaxed during the school day. Sure, they won't remember much, but that's what studying at home is for, right?

The language of the actual legislation mentions nothing more drastic than "recommendation" to state authorities. There is no mandate or requirement. It makes nothing compulsory.

Some of us seem to be terribly inclined to fret constantly about the ineffable rights we might be losing, somewhere, somehow...maybe it's a mental health issue. They should develop a drug for that.

    Okay, in reverse order:
The normal kids aren't allowed to fence.
At first glance, I'd think the emotional kids get assigned to sabre, but on reflection I'm assigning them to epee. They look likely to double-touch rather than parry.
The logical kids I'm sending to foil.
The psychotic kids go to sabre.
The neurotic kids get to referee.

Gotta flip the emotionals and the logicals.

I like the idea of assigning the neurotics to referee and banning the normals from the sport completely. :)
