Array FIE sabre blades do not exist.
As for what sabres/componants you should get, thats a personal preference tho allstar seems to be really popular.
Expensive sabre blades are not worth it. "Their interpretation is, however, refuted most elegantly by your system of radioactive atom + amplifier + charge of gun powder + cat in a box"

Depends on how much money you have to consider something expensive. I love my BF FIE sabre, but I can see that it would be extravagant for someone else.
To the origional question: Any sabre from the Fencing Post is atleast decent. I like the StM Y-Sections for a good priced sabre.
(www.thefencingpost.com, click sabre. :-D) "In offering to you, my countrymen, these counsels... But, if I may even flatter myself, that they may be productive of some partial benefit, some occasional good; that they may now and then recur to moderate the fury of party spirit, to warn against the mischiefs of foreign intrigue, to guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism; this hope will be a full recompense for the solicitude for your welfare, by which they have been dictated." - George Washington -

Array What's the advantage of a french grip over a pistol grip? Or vice versa? -

Array No such thing as cheap FIE blades. And no sense in getting an expensive sabre blade. Most of the blades that break are sabre, so I wouldn't put much investment into one. -

And yes...FIE sabre blades do not exist...there's no requirement for one. The vast majority of the time I see sabre blades break are at the tang...also about 4 inches fro the tip, but the tang seems to be more common.
I sell electric sabres for $60-$70 (depending only on the socket type)...StM Y blades -
Yeah well thanks everybody. Im interested in fencing Saber in competition and it made more sense to just go ahead and buy an approved one for competition. Instead of lastime where as I bought a blue gauntlet practice foil, withouth realizing the implications. -

Array A good FIE approved start out blade would be the StM. They are reasonable and resistant. -

Array Yes. You can go cheaper, but the S+Ms are very serviceable. Unless you are at the very top of the competitive ranks---in which case your federation or sponsor is likely buying them for you---FIE or maraging sabre blades are not cost effective. They are expensive but not more durable than any other blades. As people have said, you can use any sabre as long as the blades are stamped S2000 ( or later date ) and have all the necessary parts. -

Array Yeah, crazy, huh? I don't know how they sell enough of them to justify keeping them in production, but there must be some demand or there'd be no supply. ( Perhaps the wicked richest Americans are spending their unconscionable illicit tax cuts on them. ) Similar Threads -
