Array Hmm.. I'm amazed that they had Presbytarians up there. I'd have just piled everyone (Catholics... et cetera) under Christian. Then you could have had Islam on there too. Oh, and I know many, many, many Islamic fencers. My coach was one and he had many other friends. They're all in Texas. Proditio plerumque amatur, proditor odio habetur.

Has the Anglican Church abandoned the 39 articles? I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing! -

Array No it hasn't, but as a Catholic, I found the service to be more like what I grew up with (High Church, that is). I like my churches to look and smell like a church, not a place that, well, if it doens't work, it could be sold and used as a community center or auditorium.
I was heavily involved with the transition of the Catholic service from the traditional, to the "Folk Mass" as it was called in the late '60's, which has now become de riguer. It was ok for when I was in my teens, but as my faith matured (and me, too) I found that I prefered the solemnity of Anglican High Service (yes, Rite I).
Just my take on things.
WOOOHOOOO my 800th post! -

WOOOHOOOO my 800th post! My roommate was raised Roman Catholic and was eventually received into the Episcopal Church. When her mother (a lifelong Roman Catholic) stepped into our "high" church and saw the images, the crucifix on the altar, and smelled the lingering traces of candles and incense, she told JoAnne, "You're still Catholic!"
Since most tournaments are held Sunday mornings, I go to the local Roman Catholic church's Saturday 5 PM Mass on competition weekends. And it's true, they only sing a verse or two of the hymns. What's up with that?
As to the poll--yes, I agree, the single word "Christian" would have been enough. "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never . . . never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense." Churchill, 1941 -

I suppose for most Catholics, mass is something you do cause you have to. Hell, if you go to a Catholic wedding, you will find a lot of people checking to see if they can skip mass that weekend... -

I don't think many Catholics in the UK still have that attitude to mass attendance.
And Mergs - so all that 70s folk crap is your fault! ? Actually I know what you mean, but thankfully in London there is still some civilisation in the RC church. I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-

WOOOHOOOO my 800th post! Just the phrase "if it doesn't work, then" when associated with a religion doesn't work for me. It should look, smell, sound, and act like it's a religious place and function. -

Array There should be an "other" option...I would fall into "other".
I'm not so much religious as I am spiritual. I "used to be" Christian, but then discovered it wasn't working for me...so I've kind of developed my own, based on my own beliefs. I fall more into the "New Age" category than the traditional religion categories. -

Array used to be CofE...but have..uh..retired?
there's also no Pagan category...
Still quite spiritual but don't follow any organised groups... just make up my own mind! "If you want it.. go for it!" Sugar Ray Leonard -

Array Ah....what exactly does "spiritual" mean, anyway? To you folks, I mean. Are you animists? Venerating spirits in stones, sky, fire, etc? Followers of spritualism? What? -
