epee tip!!! my contact spring (i'm assuming the smaller one) has screwed itself in;i.e. to short now. how do i get it back out since i'm no longer getting a light.

Pull it out (or would you say 'off'?) and replace it with a new one!
I've never managed to srew them out again and make it function properly. Tricky little buggers...
